About Warminster Pennsylvania

The township of Warminster was known as such as early as 1685, but wasn't officially established as such until 1711. A part of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Warminster is less than 14 miles north of Philadelphia. Founded by William Penn in 1682, the township takes its name from a town in Wiltshire, England and was settled primarily by English and Scotch-Irish settlers. Warminster has been a farming community for much of its existence, having little else until the late 1950s. Warminster was home to the Naval Air Warfare Center, which served as a training location for the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo space programs. It was also where the first black box used on airplanes was developed.
