The new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) system, named 4xe, delivers unrivaled fuel efficiency and capability. Linked to a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 cylinder engine are two electric motors powered by a 400-volt battery pack. This system delivers 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels. With both a fully charged battery and full tank of gas, the Grand Cherokee 4xe offers 370 miles of hybrid driving and 25 miles of all-electric driving. Additionally, it gets the gas equivalent of 56 MPG. All Grand Cherokees come with an 8-speed automatic transmission that powers the rear wheels. However, the more common setup found here in Pennsylvania is 4x4, as it is better suited for our unpredictable weather. The Grand Cherokee is available with Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II with an electronic limited-slip rear differential.
