Are we there yet? It's a question that we as parents have heard a million times. Truthfully, it's a question we probably asked our parents a million times as well. I know I did.

Whether you are hitting the road for a family vacation, holiday visit or just heading out for a full day of errands with the kids in tow, it's nice to have some activities to keep them occupied.

Kids loved to be engaged in activity. Since we now live in a world that is so dependent on technology, I think it's important to turn off the electronic devices now and then and participate in some good old-fashioned games and activities. 

Car rides for a child, no matter how long or short, can be boring. Keeping your kids occupied during the journey will make the time spent in the car go so much faster. It's also a great way to spend quality time together.

Here are five fun games and activities you can do together as a family while riding in the car.

I Spy: One person is the spy and looks for an object. It's described by "I spy with my eye, something that's green and shaped like a rectangle." The others have to guess what the object is. Who ever guesses, get to by the "spy" next. The game continues until everyone gets a turn.

Car Bingo: Get creative and make a travel bingo board on your computer. Make sure you make a few different boards so everyone receives a different board. Print out and take on your trip. Give everyone (except the driver) a crayon or marker to mark off his or her bingo squares when they find one of the objects.

The License Plate Game: Try to spot as many different license plates from the 50 states as you can. You can either do just a friendly let see how many or turn it into a competition to see who can spot the most.

Storytelling: One person starts off a story and each person adds a sentence to the story. Make sure everyone gets at least 3 turns to make the story more interesting. This can get really funny.

Grocery Store: (A great memory game). The first person starts with the letter A and says I am going to the grocery store to buy (something that starts with the letter A.), such as artichokes.  The next person says, " I am going to the grocery store to buy artichokes and (something that starts with the letter B), like bananas. The game continues with each letter of the alphabet. If a person cannot remember one of the items, then he or she is out. Go easy on the younger kids and give them a few hints if needed. It's fun to see how far they can make it through the alphabet.
