2018 Jeep Renegade vs 2018 Kia Soul near Philadelphia, PA

The growing subcompact SUV class has more competition than ever, and while it's always important to have options to choose from--that can also lead to plenty of indecision. We are here to help narrow down the search, and to start, we've plucked out the 2018 Jeep Renegade and the 2018 Kia Soul as two of the top competitors in the segment! We are going to pit them against one another and have them battle it out to see which one reigns supreme. To begin, the 2018 Renegade has had a few upgrades when it comes to infotainment. The 7.-inch and 8.4-inch touchscreens now come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a rearview camera and six-speaker audio system come standard with every Renegade. The 2018 Soul also adds more features, including new package options, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and automatic climate control. To continue learning more about these SUVs, and to see which one outpaces the other, keep reading!

2018 Jeep Renegade Power & Handling

The Renegade, while offering many exciting features, comes with two available engines. The first of these, which is paired with a six-speed manual transmission, is a turbocharged 1.4-liter inline-4. This engine creates around 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. You can get it in either front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The other available engine, which comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission, is a 2.4-liter inline-4. This engine puts out 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. Both front-wheel and four-wheel drive are offered with this engine.

2018 Kia Soul Power & Handling

Three engines are available with the Soul. The first engine is a weak 1.6-liter inline-4, that produces 118 pound-feet of torque and 130 horsepower. This engine comes with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. It's an incredibly sluggish standard engine. The next option is a 2.0-liter inline-4, creating 150 pound-feet of torque and 161 horsepower. This engine comes with a six-speed automatic transmission. The final engine, connected with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, is a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-4 that outputs 195 pound-feet of torque and 201 horsepower. Front-wheel drive is standard, and there is no four-wheel drive option.

2018 Jeep Renegade Features & Design

The Renegade not only has two powerful engines that are offered with four-wheel drive, but there are also four trim levels available. The first of these, called the Sport, comes with 16-inch steel wheels, a USB port, manually adjustable mirrors, a six-speaker sound system, remote locking and unlocking, a 5-inch touchscreen, push-button ignition, Bluetooth, power windows and locks, a driver information display, a rearview camera, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a height-adjustable driver seat, a removable cargo floor panel, a fold-flat front passenger seat, cloth upholstery, and a 60/40-split folding rear seat. Three packages are also offered with this trim. Another option, the Limited, adds features like dual exhaust tips, a windshield wiper de-icer, keyless ignition and entry, an upgraded driver information display, a 115-volt household-style power outlet, an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat, a heated steering wheel, and a leather-wrapped shift knob. Conclusions

There is one clear winner here, and that is the 2018 Jeep Renegade. Not only does this SUV perform efficiently and quietly on the road, but it can absolutely handle off-roading. The Soul, on the other hand, was only made for on the road fun, and misses out on the weekend adventures.
