2018 Dodge Grand Caravan vs 2018 Toyota Sienna near Philadelphia, PA

The minivan has been the go-to family car since it was first introduced as a segment, and in 2018, the minivan still reigns supreme as the perfect car if you have are a family on-the-go. Picking the perfect minivan, then, can be a stressful and overwhelming process, especially considering the competition in the minivan segment. We are here to take two of the top minivans and put them against each other in order to help you pick the one that is best suited to your lifestyle and your needs. The two minivans we have chosen are the 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan and the 2018 Toyota Sienna. To start us off, the expertly crafted Dodge Grand Caravan remains unchanged for the 2018 model year. The Grand Caravan is a staple in the Dodge lineup, and it is no surprise that this machine has felt no need to change what is an already perfect design. The 2018 Toyota Sienna adds a revised front-end, a Safety Sense package, additional USB ports, and updated Entune infotainment software. These minivans are just starting their battle, who is going to win? Keep reading to find out more.

2018 Dodge Grand Caravan Power & Handling

Not only does the Grand Caravan have amazing style, but you'll also gain a powerful standard engine. This engine, which produces 260 pound-feet of torque and 283 horsepower, is a 3.6-liter V6. The Pentastar engine is well-known and well-loved in the car world for a reason. In order to get the most out of the Pentastar engine, it is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. This transmission will not make it feeling like your minivan is hunting for the right gear, instead it delivers a smooth shift action. Another perk of the engine is that it can use two types of fuel. The first fuel type is gasoline, and with gasoline, you'll get around 17/25 mpg. The other fuel type is E85, which will get you 12/18 mpg.

2018 Toyota Sienna Power & Handling

The Sienna does not come with an engine that can run on two types of fuels. Instead, it comes with a gasoline-only engine, a 3.5-liter V6. This engine can produce up to 263 pound-feet of torque and 296 horsepower. The transmission that couples itself with the V6 engine is an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, although you can choose all-wheel drive on all of the trims, except the base trim. In front-wheel drive, you'll get 19/27 mpg, and in AWD you'll be getting around 18/24 mpg. The versatility of the Grand Caravan means that the Sienna is outmatched, and falls short of producing an interesting engine.

2018 Dodge Grand Caravan Features & Design

The Grand Caravan continues to impress with four trim level options. Those options include the SE, SE Plus, SXT, and GT. The base option, called the Grand Caravan SE, comes with many amazing standard features. You'll find a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with audio controls, a six-speaker audio system with a CD player, a 6.5-inch touchscreen display, cruise control, a second-row bench seat, three-zone climate control, heated mirrors, 17-inch steel wheels, and a conversation mirror. Additional features are added through the Uconnect Hands-Free Group package. Another trim option, the SE Plus, gains you even more features. Those features include fog lights, exterior styling elements that are black, 17-inch alloy wheels, upgraded trim and upholstery, automatic headlights, remote engine start, and a front floor console. You'll also get captain's chairs! The highest option with the Grand Caravan is also the sportiest. The Grand Caravan GT comes with black interior accents, a performance-tuned suspension, heated 2nd-row seats, a nine-speaker audio system, a 115-volt household-style outlet, an eight-way power passenger seat, and full leather seating.

2018 Toyota Sienna Features & Design

The Sienna comes with five trim levels: L, LE, SE, XLE, and Limited. The trims are slightly lacking in features. The base L trim offers a seven-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera, an auxiliary audio jack, a conversation mirror, a wiper de-icer, Siri Eyes Free, a 6-speaker sound system, automatic headlights, and Bluetooth. The next trim level, the LE, comes with telematics services, heated mirrors, upgraded easy-clean fabric upholstery, Wi-Fi hotspot, power-sliding rear doors, an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat, and satellite and HD radio. The second-to-highest trim, the Limited, comes with noise-reducing side glass, driver-seat memory settings, first and second-row premium leather upholstery, 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10-speaker JBL surround-sound audio system, a heated steering wheel, and auto-dimming and power-folding mirrors.

While these two minivans have a lot of similarities, and they are obviously great options to choose from--the 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan is the clear victor. The unique engine that can use two fuel types and the perfectly outfitted four trim levels push the Grand Caravan above the Sienna.
